DUVAL LEROY - 1998 BLANC DE CHARDONNAY
France, Champagne
Sparkling, Chardonnay
From erobertparker.com:
The 1998 Brut Blanc de Blancs Chardonnay is full-bodied and generous in its ripe, tropical fruit. The wine offers good length and balance, although it doesn’t have the freshness or sheer verve of the entry-level non-vintage wines. Notes of sweetness linger on a slightly heavy finish. This is Lot: L7269CG19, disgorged on September 26th, 2007. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2012.
This large producer based in Vertus has an excellent range of wines on the market. Oddly enough, it is the non-vintage wines that are especially strong, while the higher-end bottlings aren’t appreciably higher in quality.
From winespectator.com:
A lively, graceful bubbly, this wears its detailed peach, apple and lemon flavors lightly, with a burst of acidity pushing it through to the nutty finish. Delicate and ready to drink. Drink now through 2018. 2,000 cases made.
